LEARN TO SWIM

Learn to Swim

Our children’s lessons are designed to build essential swimming skills through structured and playful learning. We use age-appropriate techniques and games to teach foundational skills such as floating, gliding, and basic strokes. As children progress, they learn more advanced techniques and water safety. Our goal is to make learning fun, fostering a lifelong love for swimming while ensuring they develop strong and safe swimming abilities.

Lesson options for Learn to Swim

  • A one-off, paid session to meet the coach and see how your child responds to the water. The coach will assess their comfort and ability, then recommend whether a group or private format is best suited.

  • A 1:1 session with a coach, fully tailored to your child’s pace and needs. Ideal for building confidence, focusing on technique, or supporting nervous swimmers.

  • Two swimmers share one coach—great for siblings or friends of similar ability. Sessions are still personalised, with the added benefit of shared motivation and fun.

  • Small group lessons with a maximum of 5 children per coach. Swimmers of similar age and ability learn together, building skills and confidence in a social, supportive setting.

WHAT WILL THEY LEARN

Our Learn to Swim programme is designed for children aged 3+ and follows Swim England’s progressive stages, building water confidence, independence, and core swimming skills:

  • Water Confidence: Fun activities and repetition help children feel happy, safe, and relaxed in the water.

  • Floating & Balance: Children learn how to control their body in the water through front and back floating and streamlining.

  • Basic Stroke Technique: Introduction to key swim strokes—front crawl, backstroke, and breaststroke—developed gradually.

  • Kicking & Arm Actions: Focus on correct limb movement to support efficient propulsion and coordination.

  • Breath Control: Children learn how to safely hold their breath, blow bubbles, and begin rhythmical breathing.

  • Safety Skills: Essential lifesaving and self-rescue techniques are introduced, including safe entries and exits.

  • Independence: Swimmers gain the ability to move confidently and unaided over increasing distances and durations.

This programme builds a strong foundation for lifelong swimming, setting children up for Stage 8+, competitive development, or recreational water safety.
